Community Involvement

A few years ago, we began our involvement with Volunteers of America's Upward Bound Program.  At first, this entailed establishing an annual scholarship to 10+ graduating high school seniors and tutoring on Saturdays.  We have since worked with Upward Bound to identify those areas where we could best assist the Program, to help make up for Federal and State budget cuts.  We enhanced our involvement with the Program by developing and conducting a 6-session "Game Plan Seminar" for high school juniors, helping them better understand themselves and how to navigate the college application/scholarship process, as well as a 2-session "Writing Seminar" for grades 9-12, focusing on essay writing for the SAT exams.  Since we began our involvement with the Program, we have seen a dramatic improvement in the skill sets of the students.  It is very rewarding to see them progress throughout high school and also in college.
